2017 Events of the League

Events are listed in calendar order for the entire year.

Recommendations for members of the League of Proper Villains, recent and not: Please feel free to RSVP 'Interested' on Facebook to any and all events that you might not have a chance to attend so that you will see details about the event. We suggest this because it gives you an opportunity to stay in touch with all of your Villain friends and stay abreast of what is happening at our events, even though sadly you might not be attending.

Also see this list of dates for known events going on around us.

To RSVP to any of our events, check our Facebook page and RSVP on the events page, or write to events@sacvillains.com and tell us your name (real or Villain) and which event you plan to attend. We like to know how many minions are attending to make sure we have adequate space and supplies. On some events an RSVP is required in order to attend.

We continually add events to this page. Events titled 'invasions' are events that we encourage you to attend but the LOPV is not actually hosting or formally participating in. Examples of invasions include Pirate Festivals, Renaissance Faires. etc.

Saturday, Jan 14 at 6:30pm - El Tapatio, 5637 Sunrise Blvd, Citrus Heights, California

Villains in January

Let's start the year off right with our favorite theme; Ourselves! Come to our dinner and get to be the first to hear of our coming plans for world domination. It's going to be a busy year and and we want everyone to have a big head start. We'll tell you about our monthly events for the first half of the year, where we'll challenge you with exciting themes and some great projects and invasions. Win a prize and bragging rights as we hold contests associated with our themes.
To start the year off, we want to see your most evil hat/chapeau. Wear it to the meet and our Cabinet will award you for the best designs.

Saturday February 11 - 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM - Claimstake Brewing - 11366 Monier Park Pl, Rancho Cordova, California 95742

Evil Disney

Disney doesn't have to be sweetness and light. Maleficent. Scar. The Red Queen. Ursula. Darth Vader. Lovely villains all. But why stop there? It takes but a nudge to throw a hero from light into shadow. Would Snow White have been quite so chipper if the queen have pushed a little harder? Would Cinderella have been quite so forgiving without the Chipmunks to help swab the floors? Darken your Disney and add a bit of steam. Stir the pot and add an apple for luck...Or more nefarious purposes. Join us in February for Dark Disney. Awards for best costumes.

This event is a test of a new location: Claimstake Brewing in Rancho Cordova. It's down South Sunrise in an industrial area. They only serve microbew beer but a food truck sets up at the side of the building. The event is early because of the limited hours they are allowed to be open. This location allows us to be far away from the mundane world while doing our more 'unusual' costumes.

If you've has something planned, just hang onto it for now and come this month is your classic Villain attire. We really want to see you and discuss events and locations. Help is ALWAYS welcome!

Unfortunately, our Cabinet members are too busy working on the ArtMix and Clockwork Alchemy to hold any LOPV specific events this month, but we have several invasions!

Thursday - Monday, May 25-29 - DoubleTree by Hilton 2050 Gateway Pl, San Jose, CA

Villains Rule at Clockwork Alchemy 2017

For one glorious weekend, the temporal rifts tying San Jose, California, to a world that might have been, and indeed, to alternate worlds beyond, shall be opened for a grand meeting of minds and hearts. Join the adventure of Clockwork Alchemy at the San Jose DoubleTree Hotel during Memorial Day Weekend, May 26–29, 2017.

Clockwork Alchemy is the highlight event of our year. 'CA' is more than an invasion for the LOPV. Here we mix with members of the steampunk community from all over the world.
Come see the Villains Secret Lair in the Artist’s Gallery, visit with our own Penelope Dreadfulle, who will be signing books and penning the latest scandals for the offices of the Blackfriars Courant in Authors Alley. Join this event and watch this page for special Villain news and updates. We will be posting extra sign-up events for volunteers to help us with our diabolical plans and enlighten the patrons of the convention on the joys and benefits of proper villainy. There are rewards for volunteering!
In addition, our own Dr. Blackheart has taken over the Artists Gallery at Clockwork Alchemy and has a message for all steampunk artists: "My aim is for a truly immersive environment to show off YOUR talents as an artist! The art of steampunk is all about personal creativity. We innovate, we re-purpose, we give life to the otherwise drab and mundane surroundings of our lives. To become part of this legendary display, submit an application at the link below. Submissions must be received by April 30, and remember, all weaponry must be non-fire able and all doomsday devices must be disabled."

Saturday June 10 - 1:00 - 6:00PM - At the Dr's lab

Villain Evil Genius Workshop at the Dr's. laboratory

Hosted by Dr Blackheart and featuring the works of SteamyTech.

Bowing to pressure from some, and with gasps by others, the Dr is opening his laboratory for carefully selected members of the LOPV to come and build and learn the arts that can make each of them into an evil genius.

We are very pleased to announce the masterminds behind SteamyTech will be joining us to provide kits and lots of bits from their own laboratory for you to bash into creations of your own. They will be bringing a version of their Maker Night so you can make key rings or bottle openers with the villian logo at a special Villian price of only $10! Our local villains will be doing workshops in other mediums and we'll have weaponry you can redesign to fit your particular desires.

Paints and glue and lots of odd bits will be available to help finish your creations. As we get closer to the event we'll detail some of the things you'll be able to build. Some things may require a fee or charge but many won't.

Since this will probably be a warm Sacramento afternoon, casual villain wear is just fine.   If it’s a hot day, feel free to bring a swimsuit for a cooling dip in the pool as a break from creating evil devices.   Snacks and drinks will be provided, but please feel free to bring anything you want for yourself or to share.

Saturday and Sunday June 17-18 - 298 Mare Island Way, Vallejo, California 94590

Villains Annual Invasion of the Northern California Pirate Festival

If there's anything we love as much as dressing as steampunk villains it's dressing up as pirates. Of course, as 'proper' villains we never get our own hands dirty - that's why we hire out pirates! We like to blend in and mingle with them to set up our nefarious deeds. So grab your pirate gear, make up a letter of marque or two and join us at this great event by the sea. And watch out for the cannon fire!

Saturday July 8 - 3:00 - 10:00PM - LOPV pool party - at the Dr's lab

7th Anniversary of The League of Proper Villains - A Day by the Sea

Join the Dr. and your fellow villains as we recreate the strange seaside practices of the Victorians and Edwardians.

The Victorians were a strange lot. They would wear wool and many layers to the beach. It's a wonder they didn't all drown. This is the height of summer and you may want to use the pool or just dangle your feet in the water so wear something you don't mind getting wet. The costume theme is Victorian and Edwardian bathing attire and there will be awards for the most fun outfits. There are links below to more information about appropriate attire and where to find it. So in proper steampunk style, locate or make an actual Victorian or Edwardian bathing costume and we'll all look silly together while we share in an afternoon potluck and lounge about in cumbersome garments by the pool.

You may arrive at the lab anytime after 3 PM. We will plan the meal for 6 PM and you may stay on into the evening or until the last attendee has sunk to the bottom of the pool from wearing too much wool. A grill is available - hot dogs and chicken/turkey dogs will be provided, please bring anything else you'd like to grill and something to share. Please bring drinks also -we'll provide water and sodas and some adult libations. Instructions on how to navigate to 'The lab' will be sent to all who RSVP. The general location is near Madison and I-80 in Sacramento.

Sunday July 23 - Mare Island

Villains Invade the Obtainium Cup

The Obtainium Cup Contraptor’s Rally is a 4-mile crazy mad-cap jaunt through the post-Apocalyptic world of Mare Island, braving such hazards as flying monkeys, zombies, and mad tea parties!  Human-powered vehicles and bicycles from around the Bay Area will be competing based on creativity, tenacity, and participation.

Details about this year's event to follow as we get them.

Wednesday August 9 - 6:30PM - SB Grill

Villains Keep Cool.

It's August in Sacramento - guess what, it's hot! Come join the LOPV in a cool setting, our favorite pub - Stirling Bridges - Now SB Bar and Grill! Beat the heat and come on out in your coolest summer steampunk or villain ensemble (always admired, not required) .... enjoy some food, a cold beverage, and chill for a while.

Fairly regularly, The League of Proper Villains holds events at various pubs and restaurants in the greater Sacramento Area. This is the Villains chance to meet in a casual setting, enjoy each others company, dress in Steamy Fashion or not.

Suggestions of pubs and restaurants for future events are welcome.

We're always working on new events, so keep checking back here or see us on Facebook!
